Eight one-star reviews in three days. From August 18 to August 20, 2026, Topstep's Trustpilot page collected a cluster of angry reviews alleging closed accounts and withheld money: a $629 payout confiscated after a facial-scan alert, five funded accounts eliminated on a copytrading accusation the trader denies, a first payout sent to the wrong bank account number. The same three days also brought 11 five-star reviews, and every allegation below is a single reviewer's account, none of it independently confirmed. Still, when we logged Topstep on August 15 the payout grumbling was a trickle worth watching. Three days later it looks like a wave.
What are the new one-star Topstep reviews about?
The eight one-stars break down like this:
- One Wise payout delay. A Portuguese-language reviewer says a withdrawal requested August 11 still had not arrived. The Wise payment-processor delays are their own story, which we cover separately.
- One general customer-service complaint, a reviewer venting that any platform problem gets blamed on the trader, with no specific enforcement claim.
- Six allegations of account bans or payout problems, each from a different author, across English, Spanish, and French.
All eight are marked Organic and not-verified by Trustpilot, meaning the platform has not confirmed the reviewers' order or account details.

What do the ban and payout allegations against Topstep say?
The six ban and payout reviews, each the reviewer's own account:
- Card name mismatch: a reviewer says her account was closed at payout time because the payment card she had used was in her husband's name, after months of Topstep accepting those payments.
- Platform dispute: a trader says his $150K funded accounts were closed when a stop loss failed to trigger on the TopstepX platform, and that Topstep rejected the screenshots he sent as proof.
- Copytrading accusation: a Spanish-language reviewer says five funded accounts were eliminated without notice over a copytrading accusation he denies, after he had withdrawn more than $15,000 across 6 profitable months.
- Misrouted payout: a reviewer says his first payout went to the wrong bank account number, his bank requires a Letter of Indemnity to pull the funds back, and Topstep refused to assist with the recovery.
- KYC facial scan: a French-language reviewer says a $629 payout was confiscated and his account permanently banned after a facial-scan identity check flagged him, a false positive he blames on a person standing beside him during the scan.
- Group trading: a reviewer says he and his friends were banned together for taking the same trades, writing "TOPSTEP BECOME TOPSCAM OR SCAMSTEP". His words, not ours.
Has Topstep responded to the reviews?
Partially. In our August 20 capture, one of the eight carries a public company reply: Topstep answered the French-language reviewer, saying its records show the account was closed for a Terms of Use violation concerning identity verification, and inviting him to continue the conversation at [email protected]. The other seven one-stars had no reply yet at capture time, while most of the week's five-stars had already been thanked.
The counterweight in the same window is real, and it deserves the same space:
- 11 five-star reviews landed in the same three days, several praising payout speed by name.
- An invited reviewer wrote on August 18 that an account of theirs was "mistakenly closed" and that support identified the issue and restored it after a brief conversation. That is the exact failure mode several one-stars allege, resolved.
- An invited reviewer posted "payout approved" on August 20, saying Wise had a processing issue and the money came through.
Topstep's own homepage claims over $1.4 billion paid out to traders all time and 7,000+ traders paid weekly. Those are the firm's numbers, not ours, and we have not verified them.
Is Topstep a scam?
One reviewer used the word. We won't, and the record here doesn't support it.
What this cluster establishes: eight one-star reviews in three days, with six separate authors in three languages alleging bans or payout denials, a clear escalation from the complaint trickle we logged as a watch item on August 15.
What it does not establish: that any individual account was wrongly closed. Every allegation is a single trader's version of events. Trustpilot has verified none of the reviewers, no allegation is corroborated by a second source, and in the one case Topstep has publicly answered, the firm says the closure followed a Terms of Use violation. A firm with 15 years of history and thousands of weekly payouts (again, its own figures) will generate some volume of disputes in any three-day window; what moved our needle is the density and the specificity, not any single story.
How does this affect Topstep's tier score?
Our August 19 re-score cut Topstep's sentiment read from 49 to 44, and its red-flag deduction deepened from 3 to 6 points as the payout-complaint watch item escalated into a documented cluster. Two things kept the damage contained: the 11 five-star reviews in the same window, and no sign of trader exodus, with Topstep's Instagram audience flat at about 124,000 followers. Its growth status stays "Stable revenue" for now.
The tier board re-scores nightly. If the one-star run cools off, the deduction shallows out on its own; if more traders post specific, checkable enforcement stories, this cluster gets a second look. All figures in this post are from our August 20 capture of Topstep's Trustpilot page.
